What is under left rib cage to cause pain?

Hi out there,
I have been having a really bad pain under my left rib cage . it doesnt happen all the time, most of the time , it is tender to the touch. first, is that the stomach? or liver? and any ideas out there . or if you have had this pain before. thanks

Take your right hand and place it on the lower
part of your rib cage on the right side.
In this area is the right lobe of the liver,
the biliary area, and the gallbladder.

Move your hand over toward the center.
You will have there your left lobe of the liver,
the stomach, and the pancreas.

Take your left hand and place it on the lower
part of your left rib cage: You have the spleen.

There is one kidney behind the liver on the
right hand side and one kidney behind the
spleen on the left hand side. Problem here would be felt more in the back area.

You could be checked out to see if it is
the kidney, spleen, or a pulled muscle in
that area.

The reason I asked you to use your hands,
is because doctors and nurses use the
"patient’s" point of view to list where a problem
is located in the body. If someone was
standing in front of the patient and describing this by "looking at" the patient..they would state it as being on the wrong side in their documentation.
Have you heard of patients having the
surgery performed on the wrong side of the
body? Maybe this is why.

I hope this has been of some help to you.

Well on the left side you have your heart, stomach, and your spleen. I wish I knew exactly where your pain was so I could be more helpful. Oh and your liver is on the right side.
