HA! Yes, I get pain in my lower back as well. Mine is from always slouching in chairs and cracking my lower back. But ever since then, I couldn't even sit on the ground. And if I layed on the ground on my back, I couldn't get up. I'd have to have someone pull me up, and I would scream out in pain.

Solution:

I started doing Pilates, which REALLY REALLY hurt my lower back. I couldn't even do a situp without wincing in pain. But after three days of doing it, I could finally lay on my back. I can do situps, leg lifts, I can roll around all I want. I can finally MOVE. And it doesn't hurt anymore.

Seriously... PLEASE do Pilates. I am being so genuinely honest. It will help your back SO much, not to mention do some serious work on your abs.

PILATES WORKS WONDERS

(make sure to get Pilates ABS)

Good luck to you!
References :
well im guessing your doing like sit ups and leg lifts. i would try doing it on a mat or a soft surface not hard wood floors. stretch it out. heating pad. it could be a lot of reasons. if it keeps bothering you go to a chiropractor and he or she will be able to help you:) good luck
References :
Well if hurts then don't do it. Pain is not a sign of gain. Could be something pulled. None of us on here really have the answers. If it is serious then see a doctor.
References :
Before any exercises, do a good stretch program. Toe touches are great for limbering the back up for sit ups. Sitting down and doing toe touches is another one. For now do limbering up stretches until the soreness goes away. I would not try to do sit ups with continual back pain. Remember: 10 minutes of stretches before and 10 minutes of cool down stretches after.
References :
What abdominal exercises in particular? A crunch should have no lower back movement, so if it hurts in this situation then it's due to poor form. When performing a sit up however, you may try to compensate with your lower back if your hip flexors are too weak, if this is the case then either strengthen your hip flexors or stick to abdominal and oblique isolation exercises.
